Awards and Prizes to Current and Former SCAS Fellows

Sara Danius has been awarded the Disapris 2015 by Uppsala University and Studentbokhandeln.
Sara Danius is Permanent Secretary of the Swedish Academy and Professor of Literature at Stockholm
University. She is a former SCAS Pro Futura Fellow and was in residence at the Collegium during the
academic year 2004/05.

Dan Diner receives honorary doctorate at the Department of Philosophy and Humanities at the
Freie Universität Berlin.
Dan Diner is Professor of Modern European History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was a Fellow
at SCAS in the academic year 2014-15 and in the autumn of 2015.

Hans Joas has received the 2015 History of Sociology Lifetime Achievement Award of the
American Sociological Association

Hans Joas is Ernst Troeltsch Professor at the Faculty of Theology, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and
Professor of Sociology and Social Thought at the University of Chicago. He is also a Non-resident
Long-term Fellow for Programmes in Theoretical and Historical Social Science and Religious Studies
at SCAS.

Asifa Majid has been awarded the Ammodo KNAW Award 2015 - Humanities
Asifa Majid is Professor of Language, Communication, and Cultural Cognition at Radboud University,
Nijmegen, and Associated Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen. She
was a Fellow in residence at SCAS during the autumn of 2012.

Stephan Palmié is the winner of the 2014 Clifford Geertz Prize in the Anthropology of Religion for
his book The Cooking of History: How Not to Study Afro-Cuban Religion (2013).
Stephan Palmié is Professor of Anthropology at the University of Chicago. He was a Fellow in residence
at the Collegium during the academic year 2012/13.

Richard Swedberg has been named honorary doctor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Uppsala
University

Richard Swedberg is Professor of Sociology at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He was in residence at
SCAS during the autumn of 1998.
